Tooth brusing tips

Helping a 21-month-old toddler brush their teeth can be tricky, but it's all about making it fun and building good habits! Here are some tips:

  • Make it a game:

Let your toddler "help" you brush your teeth first, and then it's their turn! You can also pretend their toothbrush is a "magic wand" that makes germs disappear.
  • Use a fun toothbrush:

Get a toothbrush with their favorite character or one that lights up! A toddler-sized, soft-bristled toothbrush works best.
  • Sing a song:

Sing a two-minute song (or play one on your phone) while they brush. You can even make up a silly song about brushing teeth!
  • Let them take control:

Toddlers love independence, so let them hold the toothbrush. You may need to do a final "mommy/daddy touch-up" to make sure everything gets clean.
  • Use yummy toothpaste:

Fluoride-free toothpaste with a mild, fruity flavor can make brushing more enjoyable.
  • Tell a story:

Make up a story about “sugar bugs” that need to be brushed away to keep their teeth shiny and h3.
  • Try a mirror trick:

Let them see themselves brushing their teeth in a mirror—it can help make the process more interactive.
  • Praise and reward:

Clap, cheer, and give lots of praise when they brush well! Some parents use a sticker chart as motivation.
  • If they're resistant, don't stress! Sometimes just letting them chew on the toothbrush for a bit is a win. Keep it playful, and they’ll get used to it over time.
